Prawn balchao

Ingredients

  • Tiger Prawns – 1.2 kg with shells
  • Red Chillies – 60 gm
  • Cinnamon sticks – 15 gm
  • Cumin seeds – 10 gm
  • Ginger – 10 gm
  • Garlic – 30 gm
  • Sugar – 15 gm
  • Toddy vinegar – 100 ml
  • Oil – 100 ml
  • Onions (chopped) – 500 gm
  • Tomatoes (diced) – 300 gm
  • Goan prawn powder – 50 gm
  • Salt – to taste

Instructions

  1. Peel and devein the tiger prawns and keep aside.
  2. Grind the chillies, cinnamon, cumin, ginger, garlic, sugar, toddy vinegar and salt to a fine paste.
  3. Sauté onions and tomatoes for 15 min, then add the balchao paste. Cook over a slow fire till oil appears on the edges.
  4. Add the prawns and cook till done.
  5. Add prawn powder to enrich the taste and aroma.

* You can have it along with some garlic bread and its real tastes yum!
